BOTANIC are proud to announce our fourth release and first for 2017: a new seven-track compilation for release this July.
Entitled Walled Garden Vol. 01: the release marks the first edition of a new series intended to highlight the region's voluminous talent flourishing 'between the cracks' of an increasingly homogenous landscape of streaming services and made-for-radio head-nodders.
In this spirit of turning over a new leaf, the release will be available after Ramadan as a free download, licensed under Creative Commons.
The compilation covers diverse territory; from the unsettling proto-electronica of enigmatic Kuala Lumpur producer Adam Kasturi, a bombastic new song from Orang featuring outspoken documentary maker Sarah Amer, to the sparse, bristling drum-based compositions of fellow Malaysian Rao.
Walled Garden also represents BOTANIC's first forays into Singapore and Indonesia - with appearances from Java post-punk duo GASHH and acclaimed Singaporean singer Vandetta (in collaboration with Manila-based producer Sylfiden). All up, the release features collaborations between 10 artists from four countries - not all of whom will be publicly credited (who doesn't love a bit of mystery?).
We are debuting one song from the release today, Sylfiden's 'Lullaby in G Minor ft Vandetta'. Recorded somewhere between Manila, Singapore and the Malaysian jungle - it's the compilation's most soulful moment and can be heard now on our Soundcloud.
It's a highlight of the compilation, but is of course nothing like the rest of the release either, so do stay tuned.
